Today’s college visit is a virtual visit from Stetson University.

First, our year has gotten off to a good start because you have done a good job of meeting the expectations we have set for being an academically focused Big Red. So thank you and keep it up. With that said, there is one very noticeable area where we need to improve, and that is picking up trash. It started this year with painted parking, where our parking lot was left more cluttered with trash than I've ever seen it. It was awful. And it continues every day at lunch, especially outside in the courtyard where trash is left everywhere. Please throw your trash away. Every bit of it. Even the little straw wrappers. All of the little things add up and make a difference.

Let's make our school great in every way. Have a great day!

Today, before we say the pledge, let's take a moment to recognize Patriot Day, which was yesterday. It marked 21 years since 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters.

This week we begin our annual Purple Week. During this week we join together as Big Reds to recognize and support both cancer research and the many people whose lives have been impacted by cancer, especially those in our own community.

If you are a junior or senior with a minimum 3.45 GPA and are interested in applying for the National Honor Society, please check your school email for information.

If you would like to join Key Club, there will be an information meeting next Tuesday, September 13 at 2:25 in the cafeteria.

Juniors or Seniors who signed up to coach Powderpuff: there is a quick mandatory coaches meeting tomorrow after school in room 122

If you are interested in being in our musical, Beauty and the Beast, go to the 10/12 building choir room today after school for auditions! Everyone is welcome and will have a spot in the show. Don’t miss you chance to perform on the real Broadway Company set we are renting for the show! We hope to see you there!

The first National Art Honor Society Meeting will be Monday in room 168 after school.

If you are driving to school, you must purchase a Parking Pass on PaySchools Events. There is a link on our website. If you have already purchased a Parking Pass, you can pick it up in the main office.

If you are getting dropped off at school, do not exit your vehicle on 19 Mile Road. That is very dangerous. Please wait until you are in the parking lot. Once you are at the sidewalk you can exit and walk in. You are actually encouraged to exit once at the sidewalk rather than waiting until you are at the door in order to keep traffic moving.

All students are expected to be in the cafeteria at lunch time. You may however go directly to the media center or to a teacher's classroom if they allow that. Once lunch starts the hallways should be clear unless you have a pass or you checked out of the cafeteria by leaving your ID on the check-out table. If you want to leave the cafeteria to go to the media center or a teacher's classroom, you must have a pass from them.

The following of dress code and backpack expectations was much better yesterday, but still not at 100%. If you have not yet seen the stick figure model of the dress code expectations, check it out below. Now let's be ready to learn - hoods off, ear buds out, and phones put away. Have a great day!

Juniors or Seniors who signed up to coach Powderpuff: there is a quick mandatory coaches meeting Friday after school in room 122

Today is Picture Day.  All students will go to the auditorium lobby during their scheduled time to get their picture taken and receive a photo ID.  Students, remember to take that ID with you to lunch. You also need it in the media center and to enter the football game on Friday. You should always have it with you. Teachers, please follow the schedule that was emailed to you yesterday.

At this time we expect that you are appropriately dressed according to the standards that we have shared with you, that any non-clear backpack is stored in your locker, and that you are ready to learn, with hoods off, ear buds out, and phones put away. Have a great day!

Tuesday, September 6, 2022

Good morning and welcome to the first day of school. I'm Mr. Distelrath, your principal, and I'll be sharing announcements with you each morning at the start of first hour. Before getting into the announcements we ask you to stand and face the flag for the pledge of allegiance.

We have many opportunities for you to be involved in clubs and activities, so listen closely for those opportunities.

To begin, if you are interested in being involved with our school musical, Beauty and the Beast,  as a performer on stage or working behind the scenes, please come to the CVHS 10/12 choir room tomorrow after school from 2:15-3:15 for an informational meeting to find out more about it and to see if it is a good fit for you! This is open to all students 9-12th grade! Everyone has a spot in our show – we do not cut! If you don’t know where to go, ask a teacher for directions to the choir room. We hope to see you there!

We also use announcements to remind you about our values and expectations. Today I want to remind you that when you walk through the doors of Chippewa Valley High School, you walk into a special place. You are a part of something special. You are a Big Red. We're excited for you to have some great experiences here; to learn and to grow and to be your best self. This is why we are expecting you to dress a little better this year. Hats, slippers, and pajamas are fine for some occasions, but not a regular school day. The same is true for your tops and bottoms. Your school dress can show your style, but it must fit a simple standard, which is covering from armpit to armpit and down to 3-4 inches on the thigh. This means that bellies must be covered too. Additionally tops must minimally include two shoulder straps. This dress expectation is a reminder that you are in a special place and that you have a special purpose for being here - to learn and grow and to be your best self.

Many of you are not dressed to this standard today. Today is a day to make this expectation clear and moving forward, you must follow this standard with your dress.

In the hours and days ahead we will share more of these values and expectations with you. Now, let's be ready to learn -

hoods off, ear buds out, phones put away, let's have a great day and a great year!
