Now is a great time to set some goals or assess how you're doing on goals already set. What will you do in these 4 weeks to be your best? Work hard and ask for help when needed.

You've heard of Thumbs Up Thursday and Fist Bump Friday. Today is Turkey Tuesday. One person gives a high five, the other makes a thumbs up sign and bumps the high five with the bottom of the fist - it's a turkey.

Also today, the CVHS staff is participating in a spirit day - It's Dress Like a Student Day. I'll be back on the announcements at the start of 5th hour to invite you vote for the best, and I'll share some more Thankful messages from Mr. Matway's class project.

Monday, November 13

Saturday was Veterans Day, which is an annual holiday observed throughout the United States to honor all those, living and dead, who served with the U.S. armed forces. So today, I would like to recognize Veterans Day and all who have served.

The Science Olympiad team competed against 44 teams in the Hawk and Hornet tournament over the weekend. Notable placings were, 

20th place in Forestry- Alicia Nava, 13th place in Write it Do it- Zachary Kraemer and Sophia Brodeur and most notable 2nd place out of 44 in Scrambler Vehicle- Zachary  Kraemer and Nick Burch. Congrats to all who competed.

A reminder that as a part of our safety protocols - bulky coats, blankets, and non-clear backpacks must be stored in lockers during the school day. In addition, we have a dress code that calls for clothing to cover from armpit to armpit and down to 3-4 inches on the thigh. The start of a new marking period is a good time to be reminded of these standards. You are receiving this reminder today and one more tomorrow. Then  Wednesday will be an enforcement day. On that day, teachers will be encouraged to pay special attention to coats, backpacks, and dress code and issue consequences for failing to meet those expectations.

Friday, November 10

There will be an informational meeting in the CVHS Media Center on Thursday November 16th at 6:30pm. There is a poster hanging on the door of Room 234 with meeting information, and a QR code to register to attend the information meeting. If you haven’t applied for college yet, come to the Media Center to get started. A counselor will be in the Media Center Café today during hours 2, 3 and 5 to help with college applications, scholarship search, career exploration or figuring out your next steps. Bring your laptop and social security number.  You will need to have a pass from a teacher.

   

Bowling tryouts will be at Imperial Lanes today and tomorrow from 3pm-5pm. Proof of a physical and participation card are needed to tryout.

Tomorrow at 7:00pm, we host the football regional championship against Southfield A & T. Remember that tickets must be purchased on gofan.co and no fans will be allowed on the field after the game.

 

Band Boosters Holiday Craft Show will be this Saturday, November 11 from 9:30 am-4:00 pm.   Admission is $3 and all proceeds go directly to support the CVHS band.

To begin the drill we will activate one of our blue pull stations. This will initiate an announcement to lockdown. At that point you will deny, which means lockdown in your classroom and barricade the door. The drill will end when your classroom is unlocked by an administrator or police officer and an announcement is made indicating that all classrooms have been unlocked.

Congratulations to our volleyball team, for a great season, while they lost the district final yesterday, they battled, and it concluded a great season in which they won a share of a second straight league title.

Today is the last day of 2023 Red Ribbon Week. Did you know that driving buzzed, increases your risk of fatal car accidents by 200%. You only have ¾ of a second to see what is happening and another ¾ of second to respond while driving to save yourself and others. This year the Coalition Teen Council is promoting various events around the slogan, “Don’t drive buzzed, bee drug free.” CTC will be bringing in a Jeep so you can experience distracted driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or marijuana and see the effects on your car insurance, other’s safety, and your own mind wellness In March, look for more details to follow.

Since it is Red Ribbon week, here is today’s fact: Drugs alter our current brain development and hinders further growth. Drugs decrease levels of neurotransmitters in the reward system of our brain, such as Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins. This can block our brain from naturally experiencing happiness. Take care of your mind like you take care of your most prized possession. Wear red on Wednesday to support being drug free.

Our school district is making a special effort this year to promote a Sense of Belonging from kindergarten through high school. To that end all students are being asked to take a Sense of Belonging survey. The Secondary Student Survey Link will be active for students until tomorrow. It was emailed to all students last week.

Today and tomorrow are half days with dismissal at 10:28am.  You will attend hours 1, 2, & 3 today.  Parent/Teacher conferences will take place in the cafeteria today from 12:00-2:30pm and 5:30-8:00pm. Reminder: By 2:30, all students not waiting at the A doors, or in a supervised activity, must go to the Pool Doors (Door 42) to wait for a ride. No unsupervised students will be allowed in any other part of the building, including the Athletic Hallway located between our two gyms.

 

Friday, October 6

The Chippewa Valley Girls Golf team finished last season tied for second place. With 5 girls returning this season, expectations were high to get over the hump for a league championship. The summer consisted of a lot of golf, training and building confidence in order to put them in the best position to reach their potential. As the season concluded this Wednesday, the Chippewa Valley girls' golf team attained their goal, completing a perfect season of 12-0, securing the MAC Blue Division as well as the MAC Blue tournament championships. Congratulations to the squad and a special congratulations to our 3 all-league golfers: Junior Chyla Weir, Sophomore Aubrey Pemberton and Sophomore Natalie Everitt. Job well done!! Regionals will be played at Stoney Creek Golf Course on Tuesday October 10th.  

We have some upcoming schedule adjustments to be aware of. Today, 5th and 6th hours will be cut short so that we can end our day with a Homecoming Pep Assembly. Next Wednesday, Juniors will begin school at the normal time and take the PSAT test.  Lists of who purchased homecoming dance tickets and guest passes are posted outside of the cafeteria. In order to enter the dance on Saturday, you must have purchased a ticket, and you must have your student ID. Guests must have had a guest pass turned in, ticket purchased, and also provide ID to enter. All students must be checked in by 6:45. Enter door #1. Check-in will be in the Auditorium Lobby. There will be a coat check-in in the main hall lobby. Shoes may not be checked in.

Today's homecoming theme is Rock your Hometown - Seniors wear red, juniors wear black and sophomores white.  Teachers wear CVHS gear!  Monday is Airport Fits day- Pajama Day. Our homecoming parade will begin at 4:30 today at St. Paul of Tarsus Church and proceeding down Romeo Plank to Greenfield. Then the homecoming game begins at 7:00. Students may continue to wait at the A door for a ride, but by 2:30, all students not waiting at the A doors, or in a supervised activity, must go to the Pool Doors (Door 42) to wait for a ride. No unsupervised students will be allowed in any other part of the building, including the Athletic Hallway located between our two gyms. We will have a security guard located in the Athletic Wing who will be directing students to the Pool Doors.
