At CVHS, we value being on time. We're 8 days into the school year, so you know where your classes and the cafeteria are located, and you know where the busses pick up at the end of the day. You need to be on time to these places. There are consequences for too many tardies including not being prepared for class, detention, and loss of credit. The consequence for being late to the bus, is the bus leaving without you. They've been patiently waiting, but are now ready to pull out of here by 2:14, so make sure that you are there in time at the end of the day.

Yesterday, our dress code was emailed to all students yesterday. Please read that email and follow the stated guidelines. Why do we have a dress code? Why can't you just wear anything you want? It's a good question. The answer is, without a dress code, people could come to school in banana costumes, or dressed like a clown, or in any number of other ways that create a chaotic environment and takes our focus away from learning and being successful. So we set some guidelines to create an environment for your success. You each play a huge role in creating that environment. Please do your part. Have a great day.

Today is our first lockdown drill. This first drill will be informational. You will discuss Avoid, Deny, Defend response options in the event of an intruder. For future drills or in an actual situation, you will be notified when one of our blue pull stations is activated, initiating an announcement to lockdown. At that point Clinton Township Police will be on their way and you will avoid or deny, which means evacuate or lockdown in your classroom. That decision is made based on the information that you have available to you at the time. The most likely response is to lockdown and to barricade the door, but some classrooms may have a clear exit route and choose that option. The drill or situation will end when your classroom is unlocked and an announcement is made.

Today is Patriot Day. On this day, in 2001, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. Take a moment today to remember the heroes and victims of 9-11.

Tomorrow we will hold our first lockdown drill. And students at Green Valley apartments will have their stop moved to Canal and the Green Valley entrance. This starts Monday. Have your parents go to StopFinder and InfoFinder to see the specific changes.

Thank you for getting this school year off to a good start. After a couple of days you are now finding your way to your lockers and classrooms, so it's a good time to remind you how important it is to be present and on time every hour, every day. Remember that first hour begins at 7:10 this year. And throughout the day, when you hear that 2 minute warning bell, you should be on your way to your next class. We do have an attendance policy that includes detentions, loss of credit, and loss of commencement for too many tardies or unexcused absences. More importantly we know how important on-time-attendance is for your success. This is all part of our CVHS values which you will learn about today.

Also today - it's Fist Bump Friday - greet your fellow Big Reds with a smile and a fist bump. Let's connect with each other. Have a great day!

You may be noticing that certain areas of the building are very crowded during passing time. You may want to consider a different route to your next class. There are stairs at the end of B, C, and D hallways.

Our mission at CVHS is to create an environment for success. Part of doing that is to have clear expectations for safety and structure. That is why we've been emphasizing our policies - clear backpacks only and no students in hallways and upstairs until 6:55 - ready to learn - hoods off, hats off, earbuds out, phones away. Another way to create that environment is to say good morning, good afternoon, or hello, how's it going. You are welcome to go outside of the cafeteria during lunch time. You must stay in the area immediately outside of the cafeteria. You should not go into the bleacher area. And please throw all trash away.
