Coalition Teen Council is celebrating the last day of Red Ribbon Week today. Did you know that excessive alcohol use by youth under the age of 21 is responsible for almost 4,000 deaths each year? Alcohol use by teens can also lead to problems with school and academics, legal problems, physical side effects including memory loss, harmful effects to brain development, and is associated with physical and sexual violence. Staying drug and alcohol free will ensure a brighter and healthier future. Happy Red Ribbon Week!

Juniors, check your email for information about SAT Prep.

Announcements – October 22, 2026

Good morning from Chippewa's Coalition Teen Council on this Thursday of Red Ribbon Week. Here is another fact for you. Did you know that “disposable” vapes really aren’t disposable? Discarded single-use vapes are a huge hazard to our environment, contaminating waterways, soil and hurting wildlife. Liquid nicotine is highly hazardous, and lithium batteries are a fire hazard and don’t biodegrade. This is a really big problem that still needs to be addressed by our lawmakers.

There will be a quick 15-minute basketball meeting for those interested in trying out for the boys' basketball after school today at 10:45 am in room 226. If you cannot make it and are interested in trying out, please reach out to Coach Smith.  Please plan to have a ride to pick you up at 11:00.

Announcements – October 21, 2026

It’s your Red Ribbon prevention fact of the day presented by Coalition Teen Council. Did you know that most car crashes involving the influence of substances are caused by marijuana? Marijuana affects judgement and motor skills. Long term use can also negatively affect school performance, cause a chronic cough or make asthma worse, increase risk of schizophrenia or other psychoses, and put you at a higher risk for heart attack.

Film club has a meeting today.

The first contest of the Michigan Math League is today after school, room 227.

There will be a quick 15-minute basketball meeting for those interested in trying out for the boys' basketball after school tomorrow (Thursday) at 10:45 am in room 226. Announcements – October 20, 2026

This week is Red Ribbon week, and Coalition Teen Council is sharing our drug prevention fact of the day.  Studies show that nicotine in vapes, pouches, and cigarettes can actually worsen stress and anxiety. People who use nicotine have double the odds of being diagnosed with depression. Nicotine also makes ADHD symptoms worse. Your stress will multiply if you become addicted and constantly crave your next hit. Don’t get trapped by nicotine!

This week is Red Ribbon Week—the nation’s largest and longest-running drug use prevention campaign. Chippewa Valley's Coalition Teen Council has provided information and drug prevention facts to share with you for the entire week.Did you know that your brain continues developing until the age of 25? Teens who vape or smoke can become addicted to nicotine much easier than adults. Nicotine sabotages our brain development and affects our memory, our ability to learn and make decisions, and puts us at risk of being hooked for life. Don’t let nicotine use ruin your future!

Picture retake day is today in the auditorium lobby. If you are a ninth grader wanting a picture retake, you must do it at the Ninth Grade Center.

We usually send fewer than 10 students, making this an incredible achievement for our choir program! These students began preparing music independently over the summer, recorded audition videos, and submitted them for consideration.
