Science Olympiad is a STEM based program that encourages students to get involved in active, hands-on group participation with an emphasis on science. Science Olympiad events take advantage of the natural curiosity of each child and allow for in-depth science exploration and discovery. Science Olympiad improves the quality of science education and problem solving in elementary school students and increases the interest of diverse students in science. Students in 4th and 5th grades are eligible for the team, and 3rd grade students are eligible for the alternate team. Students can sign up by filling out an application form requiring a teacher signature and a letter of recommendation. Parents are expected to coach a team in order for their child to participate. These competitive events bond students, teachers, parents, and principals to work together toward a shared goal and have fun and meet new people in the process.
